Bandpass Filter Definition

Bandpass Filter is a device which passes frequencies within a certain range (band) and filters out frequencies outside of the given range (band). In machine vision terms, a Bandpass Filter is generally used to maximize contrast between features of an image.

What are the benefits of using a bandpass filter?

  • Increases contrast of an image
  • Maintain image consistency and stability
  • Blocks interfering wavelengths (prevents external light sources from effecting image)
  • Can remove the need for shrouds
